St Paul Lutheran Church New Braunfels believes the church is a congregation in living relationship with God and with people. Focusing on institutional religion often brings out the sinner in us and gets us off of our mission of making disciples. Join us in worship through our many services, classes and christian programs.

What is the source of your true freedom?

… and what is the purpose of your freedom? Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia has been called “the Magna Carta of Christian Freedom.” In this letter he confesses Christ alone as our true freedom… and he declares what that freedom is for. Join us throughout June and into July for a six week sermon series on Paul and the Freedom that is yours in Christ alone.

June 2 “An apostle – not through men nor man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead” Galatians 1.1-10

June 9 Paul’s Conversion & Call Galatians 1.11-24

June 16 It’s all about Jesus: Justified by Faith Galatians 2.15-21

June 23 No More Grumpy Playground Lady (The Law and the Gospel) Galatians 3.23-29

June 30 Circumcision Not Required: Christ Has Set Us Free… Galatians 5.1-15

Would you or someone you know like to be baptized? St. Paul is soon scheduling a three (3) session...

Would you or someone you know like to be baptized?

St. Paul is soon scheduling a three (3) session course to help families and individuals prepare for baptism. Call the church office to register for this course.

Jesus said: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28.18-20

What is Baptism?

Baptism is not merely water; it is water used according to God’s command and connected with God’s Word.

What is this Word of God?

It is the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in the last chapter of Matthew, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

What gifts or benefits does Baptism bring?

It brings about forgiveness of sins, delivers from death and the devil, and gives everlasting salvation to all who believe, as the Word and promise of God declare.

What is this Word and promise of God?

It is the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in the last chapter of Mark, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16).

How can water do such great things?

It is not the water that does these things, but the Word of God connected with the water and our faith which relies on that Word. For without the Word of God it is simply water and not Baptism. But when connected with the Word of God it is a Baptism, that is, a gracious water of life and a washing of regeneration in the Holy Spirit.

As Saint Paul says to Titus, “He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy” (Titus 3:5-8a ESV).

What is the significance of baptizing with water?

It signifies that the old Adam in us, together with all sins and evil desires, should be drowned by daily sorrow for sin and repentance and be put to death, and that the new person should come forth every day and rise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.

Where is this written?

Saint Paul says in Romans, “We were buried therefore with him by Baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4 ESV). (from: The Small Catechism, by Martin Luther ©Reclaim Resources, Sola Publishing, 2011)
